ChefMeThat ("we", "our", or "us") is developed by Martin Tobias. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use the ChefMeThat app ("App").
Your privacy is important to us. ChefMeThat is designed to work primarily on your device. We do not sell your personal data to third parties.
Information We Collect
Information stored on your device only
The following data is stored locally on your device and never transmitted to our servers:
- Pantry ingredients and expiry dates you add
- Saved recipes and meal plans
- Shopping lists
- Macro targets and nutrition goals
- App preferences and profile settings
- Daily food logs and tracking data
Camera & Photo Library
ChefMeThat uses your camera and photo library to scan ingredients in your fridge or pantry. Images are sent to our AI service (Anthropic Claude API) solely to identify ingredients and generate recipe suggestions. Images are not stored on our servers after processing.
Microphone & Speech Recognition
If you use the Voice Pantry feature, your voice is processed using Apple's on-device Speech Recognition to convert speech to text. Audio is not recorded or stored by us.
Push Notifications
If you enable notifications, we use Apple's Push Notification service (APNs) to send you reminders about expiring ingredients and meal planning. You can disable notifications at any time in your iPhone Settings.
In-App Purchases
Subscription and purchase transactions are handled entirely by Apple. We do not collect or store your payment information.
How We Use Your Information
We use information only to provide app functionality:
- Ingredient images are analyzed by AI to identify food items and generate recipes
- Voice input is converted to text for pantry management
- Notifications are used to alert you about expiring ingredients
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or sell it to third parties.
Third-Party Services
ChefMeThat uses the following third-party services:
- Anthropic Claude API — processes ingredient images to identify food items and generate recipes. Subject to Anthropic's Privacy Policy.
- Apple StoreKit / RevenueCat — manages in-app subscriptions and purchases.
- Apple Push Notification service (APNs) — delivers push notifications.
- Apple Speech Recognition — on-device voice-to-text for the Voice Pantry feature.
Data Retention & Deletion
All your data is stored locally on your device using AsyncStorage. Deleting the app removes all locally stored data.
Images sent for AI processing are not retained by us after the response is returned.
Children's Privacy
ChefMeThat is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at chefmethat26@gmail.com.
Your Rights
Since most data is stored locally on your device, you have full control over it. You can:
- Delete your data by uninstalling the app
- Disable camera access in iPhone Settings → Privacy → Camera
- Disable microphone access in iPhone Settings → Privacy → Microphone
- Disable notifications in iPhone Settings → Notifications → ChefMeThat
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
